We’re here to provide coaches and team staff of all career stages and competitive levels with the resources to lead successful, sustainable and safe careers in esports and beyond.

Our
Cause

The International Federation of Esports Coaches (IFoEC) was founded in 2019 based on two core beliefs that still stand today. The first is that coaches and team staff all have an important role in protecting the health, well-being and rights of children, young people and vulnerable adults involved in gaming and esports. The second is that research-informed training and access to a community of peers can help coaches and team staff impact far more than just the competitive success of their players.

These beliefs continue to drive our work in safeguarding, education and research.

Our Mission

  • We’re working to raise the safeguarding standards of the esports industry and cultivate an industry-wide awareness of professional practice, policy and procedure in this area. The goal here is to be a guide not a gatekeeper, to ensure that those at risk are protected and to keep this important topic in the conversation.

  • There’s no one-size-fits all approach to coaching, nor is there a single path to follow to become a coach. We recognise this complexity and provide a variety of formal and informal educational initiatives for aspiring and existing coaches to develop and refine their practice. This includes live clinics, in-person workshops, mentorship and our coach certification pathway (coming soon).

  • We make every attempt to inform our work with the best available research evidence, and all of the members of our team have extensive training in how to identify this. We do this to ensure we are providing the most effective and practically valuable support possible for coaches.

Where there is a lack of evidence in the specific context of esports, we endeavour to conduct or assist with academic research that has obtained ethical approval.

Our Values

  • Esports should be for everyone. We aim to raise the professional standards of the industry but are mindful of the need to preserve the connectivity and companionship that characterises this digital domain. As such, we offer support to coaches and staff at all stages of their professional journey and encourage our community to pursue professional training to foster inclusivity.

  • We want our members to fulfil their career aspirations and find meaning in their work in esports. Our courses and training opportunities are created and delivered by established academics and leading esports professionals to help them see the bigger picture and take the next step.

  • With access to the expertise from our courses and the experience of our community and partners, our members are in an ideal position to find employment opportunities in esports.

  • Through our training and mentoring we strive to empower our students and coaches to be autonomous in their growth and development, allowing them to continually elevate their skills and aspirations and the performance and well-being of those they work with.

  • We actively support research into esports coaching and performance to ensure our courses are informed by the best available evidence. This commitment to understanding and exploring professional practice allows us to support the esports industry in delivering safe and immersive experiences to all who participate.
